Never Enough

Never Enough is a contemporary dance solo premiered in November 2025 at Théâtre de l'Onde during the Immersion Danse Festival. The piece explores displacement and the search for identity through the journey of Taiwanese choreographer Shihya Peng, blending contemporary dance, traditional Chinese dance, digital art and electronic music.

In 2019, after twelve years in France, Shihya returns to Taiwan with a show. Her mother asks: 'Why not Taipei?' It is in this precise moment, where the pride of return turns against her, that Never Enough is born: a reflection on the feeling of 'never enough' that goes beyond family bonds to touch on our own expectations of ourselves.

On stage, Shihya reclaims the peacock dance and Mongolian chopstick dance learned in childhood, turning them into symbols of self-assertion and reconciliation with her past. The video design weaves together documentary footage filmed in Taiwan, AI-generated sequences and a real-time system that transforms the body into abstract visual architecture.
